My colleague, Jeremy Barnes, and I were given the task of Branding the Mobile Innovation Lab. We needed to be distinctive while still playing nice with IBM’s overall design standards and the mark needed to flexible enough to be used at small sizes in app designs. The final result is an identity system that has caused quite a stir within the company and can be proudly displayed next to IBM’s classic logo.
The entire identity system was designed in a week and the website took an additional week and a half. The ultimate aesthetic ended up being influenced by swiss design, but with a much more humanistic execution.
The email signature has been a huge hit amongst the company. Adjectives used to describe it so far include “wicked awesome” and “bad-ass.”
