Another one of those random pieces that doesn’t really have a purpose. I printed this along with some of the other large poster type I bought in an auction, and paired these two up because they were clearly cut for the same job. All of the type in the lot I got this from was of this super-retro, 1950’s style, which i secretly love. It’s a delightful contrast to the styles of type we usually see in letterpress.
These blocks were cut from side grain wood instead of the end grain slices to accommodate their substantial size, and because they were likely cut on the fly for a job by a printer instead of being mass-produced. You can still see the pencil marks used to mark the counters on some of the blocks in this set.
